At what point do they decide you need anti-TNF treatment?

I was diagnosed in September & at 1st mtx seemed to be working like a miracle, but in the last 3 weeks symptoms have got a lot worse. I actually now feel worse than I did before I was diagnosed/started mtx

Hope your appointment went well today Lou ThumpUp Let us know how you got on.

Meriel, you would normally have to have tried 2 DMARDs and had no improvement or had to stop taking them due to unwanted effects before trying anti-TNFs. They will consider increasing your MTX and then adding something like sulphasalazine to it to see if your inflammation reduces that way first. Hope you can get in touch with your Rheumy Nurse and explain how you are feeling so they can review your current meds. Good luck

Hi,

Thank you for your replies and support. Smile

My assessment went very well, the nurse was really good at explaining all the information and at the right speed as well. All my results have come back fine from the chest xray etc, my esr is back up to 62 and crp 22, which guess explains why i have been feeling so rubbish over the last few weeks. The Nurse could not see any reason for funding to be declined, so fingers crossed.

I decided to try Cimzia?

I'm still not feeling great, I am a lot better than i was the other week but guess thats because I'm taking my co-codamol & naproxen regularly. My sick note expires tomorrow and thought of going back to work Thursday, well i just don't feel I'm ready. I'm also very worried about my mum as her husband is in Intensive Care so don't think i would be much use in work anyway. But i worry so much about work, although my employers have been very supportive, I hate calling to say I'm not coming in and i worry they will soon get cross with me. Sad

Hi Lou,

So pleased that you had a good appt. Cimzia seems a good choice and hopefully you wont be waiting too long to get started..Please try not to worry about work (easier said than done, I know). Like you said you know youre not ready and have enough to worry about. Good luck and get another sick note!

Hi Lou

Glad that you had a good appointment. I have no experience of Cimzia but I am sure you will feel much better when you start taking it. You are right not to go back to work yet, too many things going on. You need to have some more time off to make sure you have the best rest you can. I hope things improve for your stepfather too.

Thank you, my GP has now signed me off until the 12th, so that means when i go back Ive been off 4 weeks Sad But maybe if i feel a bit better next week guess i could try and go back, i felt so guilty after i spoke to my team leader.

Then on the other hand i think b*lls to it!! (sorry) but when i think of George in hospital, it makes you think that we should put our health first. But very difficult. Now Im worry that when i go back they might say we are not paying you for the time you have been off, I dont know can they do that.

Blimey i really need to stop worrying. Sad

Glad that you had a good appointment. Cimzia hopefully wont take too long to get you started on finges crossed.

I feel you should not rush to work too quickly. Your health is important, and I keep telling my self 'I am a number
and really I am the person that matters here. Having said that I am off work in my 6 week now, and no one could
worry more than me, so I really do understand how you feel. Take care

Hi Lou - glad your assessment went ok and you have a plan in place and can at least look forward to possibly feeling a lot better soon. As far as work is concerned, the sad fact is that they probably won't understand. I would probably have been one of the ones wondering why someone was off so long with 'just arthritis' - though I know the reality now.

Rose is right though - you are the one that matters here. Even if they don't 'get it' at work, it makes sense when you are unwell, in pain and starting a new drug regime to give your body chance to catch up and heal. Putting yourself in a work environment is usually stressful, so I would accept the sick notes and concentrate on yourself.

Hope you start to feel better soon and good luck with the Cimzia. xx Ailsa
